Not awful but
Pretty unremarkable commercial here. I've seen worse, but I've seen better too.
Nevertheless, I didn't get bored watching it, so I'm giving it 4/5.

Sunbeam Bread... now with caffeine
Another in the series of Hopalong Cassidy Sunbeam bread promotion commercials from the 1950s. This one starts off with a suburban kid dressed up in a fancy cowboy getup dozing. The relentlessly cheerful narrator says how this boy is "ready for the bunkhouse" until disembodied hands tempt the boy with Sunbeam bread.
Now the boy is petrinaturally energetic and he writes a letter gushing about white bread to the TV cowboy (which the producers are so cheap, that he doesn't even appear in the commercial-- only via a mailbox and a crotch shot). To further add insult, the letter is shown and read aloud to us in excrutiating detail.
But this bludgeon attack of a commercial did not save Sunbeam, alas.

I eat your favorite bread!
Asleep kid (because he doesn't have energy you understand) is woken up by mom with sandwiches! Kid reacts like he hasn't eaten for weeks! LOL He gobbles his sandwiches up and then writes to 'Hoppy' Cassidy about his devotion to his idol's choice of white bread. Interesting that we don't SEE Cassidy, just his, uh, chaps. Nice letter too, notice how SUNBEAM is in caps AND underlined, in case we did'nt get the point, we also see the kid superimposed, eating a sandwich AND holding a loaf of bread! Whooo-wee! Reccomended!
